Santa Clara County Results

More than 800 volunteers and 16,000 pounds of trash

removed from creeks!

Thanks to all the volunteers and site coordinators who, without their efforts, made this event successful!

There were 32 sites countywide –  here are results from the cleanup sites:

 

 San Francisquito Creek 

15 volunteers; approx. 300 lbs. of trash, 30 lbs. of recyclables.

Unusual items: a TV, silver soup spoon and a quarter case for a washing machine

 

 Stevens Creek at La Avenida 

12 volunteers; approx. 300 lbs. of trash. Unusual items: none reported 

 

Stevens Creek at El Camino Real

12 volunteers; approx. 355 lbs. of trash, 50 lbs. of recyclables.

Unusual items: none reported 

 

Saratoga Creek at Maywood Park

40 volunteers; approx. 1,200 lbs. of trash, 500 lbs. of recyclables. Unusual items: old lazy boy recliner, butterfly balloon, half of a trophy, part of a rusted motor cross bike, wheelchair, road baracade

 

Stevens Creek Reservoir at Stevens Creek Park 

250 volunteers; approx. 3,450 lbs. of trash, 120 lbs. of recyclables.

Unusual items: none reported

 

Wildcat Creek near Fruitvale and Allendale Avenues 

20 volunteers; approx. 300 lbs. of trash, 50 lbs. of recyclables.

Unusual item: wood pallet

 

Calabazas Creek at Via Roncole

22 volunteers; approx. 100 lbs. of trash, 50 lbs. of recyclables.

Unusual item: metal stand

 

Los Gatos Creek at Los Gatos Creek County Park

11 volunteers; approx. 120 lbs. of trash, 90 lbs. of recyclables. Unusual item: head lamp

 

San Tomas Aquino Creek at Westmont High School 

13 volunteers; approx. 80 lbs. of trash. Unusual item: none reported.

 

Smith Creek at corner of Wedgewood & Grenada Way 

1 volunteer; approx. 3 lbs. of trash. Unusual item: none reported.

 

Calabazas Creek at U.S. 101 and Mission College Blvd.

1 volunteer; approx. 8 lbs. of trash, 2 lbs. of recyclables. Unusual items: none reported.

 

Guadalupe River @ Santa Clara County Alviso Marina 

22 volunteers; approx. 220 lbs. of trash, and 90 lbs. of recyclables.

Unusual item: commercial winch, 5 gallon propane tank, commercial refrigeration unit.

 

Upper Penetencia Creek @ corner of White and Penitencia Creek Roads

20 volunteers; 190 lbs. of trash, 5 lbs. of recyclables.

Unusual items: car tire and round steel ball

 

Lower Silver Creek at Mayfair Park

12 volunteers; approx. 300 lbs. of trash. Unusual items: shopping cart and stroller.

 

Upper Penitencia Creek at Jackson Avenue and King Road

7 volunteers; approx. 270 lbs. of trash, 210 lbs. of recyclables.

Coyote Creek at Watson Park 

3 volunteers; approx. 80 lbs. of trash. Unusual items: none reported.

 

Guadalupe River at Discovery Meadow 

68 volunteers; approx. 3,500 lbs., 15 lbs. of recyclables. Unusual item: alarm clock.

 

Guadalupe River at McLellan Avenue 

9 volunteers; approx. 1,050 lbs. of trash, 10 lbs. of recyclables. Unusual item: truck axle.

 

Coyote Creek at Kelley Park 

22 volunteers; approx. 600 lbs. of trash, 150 lbs. of recyclables.

Unusual items: tire and shopping carts.

 

Los Gatos Creek at Blackford School

15 volunteers; approx. 200 lbs. of trash, 50 lbs. of recyclables. Unusual items: complete Pentax camera, mint condition women’s high heel shoes.

  

Coyote Creek at Hellyer County Park 

57 volunteers; approx. 2,354 lbs. of trash and 100 lbs. of recyclables.

Unusual items: skull, car door, metal pipes.

 

Calero Creek at Harry Road and Camden Avenue

36 volunteers; approx. 300 lbs. of trash and 200 lbs. of recyclables.

Unusual items: mattress spring and skeleton of wild boar.

 

Llagas Creek/Edmundson Creek in Morgan Hill

9 volunteers; approx. 80 lbs. of trash, 10 lbs. of recyclables.

Unusual items: corroded penny and a purple plastic toy frog.

 

Uvas Creek at Christmas Hill Park  

23 volunteers; 300 lbs. of trash, 20 lbs. of recyclables.

Unusual item: a pair of pantyhose.

 

Guadalupe River @ Columbus Park

3 volunteers; 120 lbs. of trash, 60 lbs. of recyclables.

Unusual item: half of a filing cabinet frame.

 

Canoas Creek between Cottle Road and Chesbro Avenue

26 volunteers; 700 lbs. of trash, 90 lbs. of recyclables.

Unusual item: snake skin and toothbrush.

 

 

Lower Penitencia Creek @ Dixon Landing Road

43 volunteers; 900 lbs. of trash, 50 lbs. of recyclables.

Sunnyvale West Channel @ Mathilda Avenue

0 volunteers.

 

Alamitos Creek @ Almaden Lake Park

23 volunteers; 108 lbs. of trash, 30 lbs. of recyclables.

Coyote Creek @ Anderson Lake County Park

3 volunteers; 270 lbs. of trash, 150 lbs. of recyclables.
