National River Cleanup - May 18, 2002Santa Clara County Results Over
500 volunteers! Thanks to all the volunteers, and especially the site coordinators, that participated in this event! There were 17 sites countywide. Here are results from the cleanup sites: (as of 5/22/02)
San Francisquito Creek 52 volunteers; Approx. 1,200 lbs of trash, 250 lbs of recyclables a stolen jewelry case, a mattress, and a bicycle
Stevens Creek at L'Avenida 9 volunteers; Approx. 500 lbs of trash, and a stuffed animal, metal, wood, a razor, a scooter, and a tire
Stevens Creek at Hwy 85 6 volunteers; Approx. 1,990 lbs of trash, 600 lbs of recyclables and 8 shopping carts, a kite, a credit card embossing machine and a wallet with a driver's license and ATM card
Sunnyvale at West Channel 26 volunteers; Approx. 30 lbs of trash, 10 pounds of recyclables and Quick Logic software
Stevens Creek Reservoir at Stevens Creek Park 100 volunteers; Approx. 1,000 lbs of trash, 900 pounds of recyclables, and a coconut
Wildcat Creek near Fruitvale and Allendale 35 volunteers; Approx. 630 lbs of trash, 15 pounds of recyclables, and a full size tire and sewing machine
Los Gatos Creek at Camden and Hwy 17 56 volunteers; Approx. 528 lbs of trash, 124 lbs of recyclables, and a gold crochet hook, a bullet, and a shopping cart
Alviso Slough / Guadalupe River 12 volunteers; Approx. 250 lbs of trash, and 75 lbs of recyclables
Upper Penetencia Creek 25 volunteers; 300 lbs of trash, 100 lbs of recyclables and an engine, signs for apartments and shopping carts
Coyote Creek at Watson Park 25 volunteers; Approx. 600 lbs of trash, 5 pounds of recyclables, an a stick with fishing line and a chicken bone
Guadalupe River at Discovery Meadow 32 volunteers; Approx. 3,000 lbs, and a guitar in a case
Guadalupe River at McLellan Avenue 1 volunteer; Approx. 50 lbs of trash, 1 lbs of recyclables, a remote control for TV, a women's shoe, and a hubcap
Coyote Creek at Kelley Park 48 volunteers; Approx. 680 lbs of trash, and a Scooby Doo doll
Lowe Silver Creek at Plata Arroyo Park 35 volunteers; 400 pounds of recyclables, a car transmission, a full size carpet, 2 pillows, and a box springs
Los Gatos Creek at Blackford Elem. School 38 volunteers; Approx. 1000 lbs of trash and 600 pounds of recyclables
Coyote Creek at Hellyer County Park 65 volunteers; Approx. 2.250 lbs of trash and 50 pounds of recyclables, and car batteries
Uvas Creek at Christmas Hill Park 21 volunteers; 500 lbs of trash, 100 lbs of recyclables, and a rusted rim
