National River Cleanup - May 19, 2001Santa Clara County Results Over
700 volunteers - a record high for this event!!! Thanks to all the volunteers, and especially the site coordinators, that participated in this event! There were 20 sites countywide. Here are results from the cleanup sites: (as of 5/24/01) Penitencia Creek @ Toyon School 37 volunteers; Approx. 750 lbs of trash, and two redwood park benches
Canoas Creek 16 volunteers; Approx. 200 lbs of trash, and a patio door and a full bag of pennies
Stevens Creek County Park 161 volunteers; Approx. 195 lbs of trash
Hellyer County Park 132 volunteers; Approx, 4,400 lbs of trash, and a catfish head
Wildcat Creek near Fruitdale 14 volunteers; Approx. 400 lbs of trash, 20 pounds of recyclables and sheetmetal
Almaden Lake Park 34 volunteers; Approx. 500 lbs of trash, 100 pounds of recyclables and a computer and large piece of carpeting
Guadalupe River @ McLellan and Edwards 26 volunteers; Approx. 3600 lbs of trash, 30 pounds of recyclables, and railroad spikes, plunger, live crabs and a full bottle of shampoo
Stevens Creek @ L'Avenida 25 volunteers; Approx. 1200 lbs of trash, 25 pounds of recyclables, and two shopping carts, two tires, couch cushions and a battery-operated motorcycle
Lower Silver Creek @ Tully Rd. 42 volunteers; Approx. 1,800 lbs of trash, and a jaw bone of a meat eating animal
Coyote Creek @ Watson Park 25 volunteers; Approx. 690 lbs of trash, 5 pounds of recyclables, and an antique bottle top
Williams Street @ Olinder School 19 volunteers; 450 lbs of trash, four large tires, four shopping carts, one intact 10-speed bike, and a roll of fencing wire
San Francisquito Creek 60 volunteers; Approx. 9500 lbs of trash, 70 pounds of recyclables, a motorcycle engine, water softener tank, television and two bicycles
Los Gatos Creek @ Blackford School 22 volunteers; Approx. 500+ lbs of trash, 15 pounds of recyclables and a mattress
Smith Creek @ Rinconada Park 10 volunteers; Approx. 125 lbs of trash, 5 pounds of recyclables, a McDonald's menu, and a Christmas tree stand with the tree still in it
San Tomas Aquino Creek @ Westmont HS 35 volunteers; Approx. 500 lbs of trash and a sand box top
Guadalupe River @ Discovery Meadow 16 volunteers; Approx. 360 lbs of trash, 200 pounds of recyclables, and a toy sailboat
Sunnyvale West Channel 6 volunteers; Approx. 87 lbs of trash, 25 pounds of recyclables, and a car door
Uvas Creek @ Christmas Hill Park 4 volunteers; Approx. 25 lbs of trash and 5 pounds of recyclables
