Coastal Cleanup - September 21, 2002

Santa Clara County Results

Over 1,200 volunteers!
More than 30,000 pounds of trash removed!

Thanks to all the volunteers, and especially the site coordinators, that participated in this event!

There were 22 sites countywide. Here are results from the cleanup sites:

72 volunteers; Approx. 3,200 lbs of trash, 150 lbs of recyclables a mannequin, BBQ grill, and lawn furniture

 

Stevens Creek at Hwy 85

17 volunteers; Approx. 2,410 lbs of trash, 500 lbs of recyclables and antique 55 gallon drum carrier  

 

Stevens Creek Reservoir at Stevens Creek County Park 

62 volunteers; Approx. 750 lbs of trash, 180 pounds of recyclables, and car parts, diapers, and pornographic magazines 

 

Wildcat Creek near Fruitvale and Allendale 

32 volunteers; Approx. 125 lbs of trash, 100 pounds of recyclables

 

Calabazas Creek  

18 volunteers; Approx. 200 lbs of trash, 200 pounds of recyclables, and a vehicle suspension piece

Los Gatos Creek at Camden and Hwy 17

162 volunteers; Approx. 2,750 lbs of trash, 700 lbs of recyclables, and  a shopping cart, and ski disc

44 volunteers; Approx. 900 lbs of trash, 200 pounds of recyclables, a ford engine, sofa bed, car seat, auto gas tank, 5 tires, and a hairbrush

 

Upper Penetencia Creek at South White Road  

30 volunteers; 300 lbs of trash, 200 lbs of recyclables and a speaker box

 

Coyote Creek at Watson Park 

76 volunteers; Approx. 800 lbs of trash, 150 pounds of recyclables, a

 new jar of preserved jalapenos and make-up set 

 

Guadalupe River at Discovery Meadow 

115 volunteers; Approx. 3,800 lbs, 900 pounds of recyclables,  a bicycle, hair dryer, and mattress 

 

Guadalupe River at McLellan Avenue 

28 volunteer; Approx. 1,150 lbs of trash, 75 lbs of recyclables, a piece of paper with baby foot prints 

 

Coyote Creek at Kelley Park 

50 volunteers; Approx. 100 lbs of trash, 30 pounds o recyclables, tires, barrels, and shopping carts  

 

Lowe Silver Creek at Plata Arroyo Park 

31 volunteers; 1,800 pounds of recyclables, 300 pounds of recyclables, pipes, dead ducks, beds, and a cookie sheet  

 

Los Gatos Creek at Blackford Elem. School 

45 volunteers; Approx. 2,000 lbs of trash and 500 pounds of recyclables, and large pipes

 

Coyote Creek at Hellyer County Park 

157 volunteers; Approx. 5,420 lbs of trash,  183 pounds of recyclables, TV, complete weight machine, and several dead animals

 

Miller Slough at Corner of 6th Street and Rogers Lane   

101 volunteers; Approx. 1,600 lbs of trash, 31 pounds of recyclables, and 2 engine blocks

 

San Tomas Aquino Creek near West Mont High School 

25 volunteers; Approx. 137 lbs of trash, 178 pounds of recyclables

 

Calero Creek at intersection of Harry Road and Camden Avenue 

43 volunteers; Approx. 700 lbs of trash, 500 pounds of recyclables, stove, water heater, 2 couches, and a bicycle

 

Calabazas Creek between Arques Avenue and U.S. 101 

19 volunteers; Approx. 360 lbs of trash, 40 pounds of recyclables, and a wheel 

 

Llagas Creek between Cosmo Avenue and Villa Ciolino  

42 volunteers; Approx. 213 lbs of trash, 30 pounds of recyclables, and an adult video

 

Saratoga Creek at Maywood Park  

25 volunteers; 600 lbs of trash, 350 lbs of recyclables, a child's motor cross bike, wooden plank, and a box of party favors
